Image sizes and resolution for iPhone 5 apps

With the launch of the iPhone 5, app designers now need to target two different image resolutions; the standard: 320×480 used for the iPhone 4S and older phones and now the larger, higher-resolution images required for the iPhone 5. Here are the settings to use in Photoshop:

iPhone 5 screen size:
640x1136

iPhone 5 resolution:
326 ppi

Even though the screen resolution on the iPhone 5 stands at 326ppi, I actually use 400ppi when creating new images. If you’re a visual learner, here are the settings you’ll need:

Legacy iPhone Resolutions

iPhone 4 Retina Display Resolution

The dimensions are a bit smaller for iPhone 4 Retina displays: 640×960 at 326ppi. Again, here are the settings I use in Photoshop:

iPad graphics sizes/resolutions

Older iPads:
1024x768 with 132 ppi

iPad 3+:
2048×1536 with 264 ppi
